Job Title: Catering Manager
Location: Cumbria (Lake District)
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week)
This is a BRAND-NEW opening, part of a small chain in May 2026. A unique opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Catering Manager to join this new venture, within a destination in the Lake District. This is a permanent position offering the chance to lead and grow a dynamic team within a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
This role would suit someone who thrives in a less corporate, more independent setting and enjoys leading from the front while playing a key part in shaping the future of the catering operation.
The Role
You will be responsible for overseeing three catering outlets, including a main hub and a grab-and-go kiosk. The operation is seasonal; however, this location has a more 365 day a year offering! However, there is a peak demand during school holidays and bank holidays.
You will initially manage a team of approximately 20 staff, with responsibility for 30+ team members as the operation grows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing, leading, and developing a team of 20+ staff
- You will ideally have kitchen experience, experience in costings and menu planning is desirable
- Creating rotas to ensure full coverage during peak periods
- Supporting hands-on with food preparation, including sandwiches and light offerings
- Menu creation and basic costing to support profitability and quality
- Ordering, stock control, and cost management
- Training, mentoring, and developing young or inexperienced team members
- Maintaining high operational standards and completing required documentation
- Driving performance across both units while remaining visible and hands-on
What We’re Looking For
- A strong, hands-on manager who leads by example
- Experience in catering operations, including food preparation, stock control, and rota management
- Confidence in training and developing junior or seasonal team members
- Experience with menu planning and basic costing (desirable but highly beneficial)
- A patient, empathetic but firm leadership style
- Flexible and adaptable, particularly in a seasonal environment
- Ability to work weekends and peak holiday periods
- Own transport is essential due to location
Desirable
- Multi-site experience
- Level 3 Food Hygiene (Level 2 minimum required – training can be provided)
- Ambition to progress within a growing business
