Chef de Partie / Second Chef
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Salary: Up to £15.50 per hour
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week on average)
Hours: Full-Time | Average 40 hours per week (typically 35–45 hours, depending on the rota)
Role
Join the kitchen team at a luxury care home in Ipswich, where you'll prepare fresh, seasonal meals that make a real difference to residents' daily lives. Working alongside an experienced chef and catering team, you'll help deliver nutritious, home-cooked food using locally sourced ingredients, ensuring every meal is both delicious and tailored to residents' individual needs.
From cooked breakfasts and three-course lunches to homemade cakes, afternoon teas and special celebration menus, this is a rewarding role for a chef who enjoys cooking quality fresh food while building relationships with the people they serve.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook fresh, seasonal meals to a high standard.
- Assist with breakfast, lunch, supper and homemade baking.
- Cater for a wide range of dietary requirements, including modified diets.
- Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety, hygiene and allergen regulations.
- Work closely with residents and the care team to accommodate individual preferences.
- Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen.
- Support menu planning and seasonal specials where appropriate.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Second Chef or similar fresh food role.
- Passion for preparing high-quality, home-cooked meals.
- Confident baking cakes, desserts and sweet treats.
- Friendly and approachable with excellent people skills.
- Good understanding of allergen awareness and food safety.
- Food Hygiene & Safety certificate.
- IDDSI knowledge or certification is essential.
- Enhanced DBS check required before starting.
- Reliable, organised and able to work independently and as part of a team.
