Kitchen Supervisor - East Riding of Yorkshire

Chef Supervisor

Location: North Yorkshire
Salary: £14.60 per hour
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (35–40 hours per week) Four days on and three days off, including alternative weekends.

Role

We are looking for a reliable and confident Chef Supervisor to join a busy catering operation within a secure prison environment.

This is a supervisory role where you'll guide and oversee prisoners undertaking kitchen duties, ensuring meals are prepared safely, correctly and on time. Rather than being focused solely on cooking yourself, you'll play an important role in demonstrating recipes, explaining preparation methods and ensuring food is produced to the required specifications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a chef or catering professional who enjoys working with people, sharing their knowledge and maintaining high standards in a structured environment. You don't need to be a fine-dining chef; relevant kitchen experience, a positive attitude and the ability to supervise others are key.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise prisoners undertaking food preparation and cooking duties.
  • Demonstrate recipes, cooking methods and preparation techniques.
  • Explain recipe specifications, portion sizes and food production requirements.
  • Monitor food quality, consistency and presentation.
  • Ensure food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures are followed.
  • Support the smooth and timely preparation of daily meals.
  • Provide clear instructions and guidance to kitchen workers.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and professional working environment.
  • Follow prison security procedures and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider catering team.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen or catering environment.
  • Experience as a Chef, Commis Chef, Chef de Partie or in a similar catering role.
  • Ability to follow recipes, specifications and food safety procedures.
  • Good communication skills and confidence supervising or guiding others.
  • A calm, patient and professional approach.
  • Ability to maintain standards and manage challenging situations appropriately.
  • Understanding of food hygiene and allergen awareness, or willingness to undertake further training.
  • Comfortable working within a secure prison environment.
  • Flexible to work a four-days-on, three-days-off shift pattern, including alternative weekends.
  • Reliable transport to the workplace.

Rewards

  • £14.60 per hour.
  • 35–40 hours per week.
  • Four days on and three days off.
  • Working hours of 7:30am–5:30pm.
  • No night shifts.
  • Food safety, allergen and other relevant training opportunities.
  • Support for professional development and potential progression within a large catering organisation.

If you're a chef or catering professional who enjoys guiding others, maintaining high standards and working as part of a team, this could be an excellent next step. Apply today to find out more.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds, including members of the Armed Forces community.
