Salary: £20,000 – £24,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours:
Term time: Monday to Friday, 11:00am–7:30pm (33 weeks per year)
Alternate Saturdays: 6:30am–2:30pm (17 Saturdays per year)
Out of term: 15 INSET/cleaning days, plus 22 days supporting summer lettings (hours variable)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Accommodation: On-site accommodation may be available under separate agreement

We’re working on behalf of a well-regarded independent preparatory school in Suffolk, set in 85 acres of beautiful countryside, to recruit a capable and enthusiastic chef to join their catering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, professional kitchen that supports a warm and high-achieving school community of day and boarding pupils aged 2 to 13.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will join a friendly and experienced kitchen team, supporting the delivery of high-quality meals for pupils, staff, and visitors. The role is varied, with opportunities to contribute ideas for themed food events and support a positive dining culture that complements the school’s focus on wellbeing, creativity, and care.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook meals to a high standard, using agreed recipes

Serve meals to pupils and staff, following portion control guidelines

Understand and cater for dietary requirements and allergens

Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen in line with health and safety standards

Assist with stock control and safe storage of ingredients and supplies

Support food service during school events and occasional themed days
What We’re Looking For:

Experience working in a busy kitchen (school or institutional catering experience a bonus)

Strong work ethic and a positive, team-focused attitude

Basic knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety procedures

A genuine interest in delivering healthy, high-quality food

Good time management and the ability to work independently when required

Willingness to learn and get involved in wider school life when appropriate
